Warm Sake Tasting Class & Brewery Tour

Pouring warm sake from a copper warmer into a tasting cup

About this class

Exploring sake temperature and pairing — warm sake, done right, is a revelation.

For a long time, warm sake has gotten a bad rap! But it can be absolutely delicious when you pick the right sake and the right temperature. Join us for this exciting exploration of sake temperature and the joys of warming sake — the perfect way to explore the subtle umami and richness of premium sake.

We'll contrast chilled sake with the same sake served warm, and enjoy carefully selected food pairings to round out the tasting flight. In all, we'll taste five kinds of sake, each paired with a delicious bite to bring out the flavors and textures. As always, this class includes a behind-the-scenes brewery tour to see how sake is made at NY State's first sake brewery.

What's included

  • A welcome sake to get you started
  • A brief intro to sake temperature
  • Guided tasting of 5 craft sakes served at different temperatures to bring out unique nuance
  • Exploration of sake production styles and flavors
  • Nibbles with each sake for a curated pairing
  • Handouts so you can bring your sake temperature knowledge home
  • Guided tour through our sake brewery to finish

Is this class good for beginners?

Yes — no prior sake knowledge needed. It's also a favorite second class for Introduction to Sake graduates.

“Timothy is awesome. A wealth of knowledge, a great speaker, engaging, informative, and attentive… The sake selection was excellent, the comparison to demonstrate chilled vs warm — especially while trying to dispel the myth that only bad sakes are heated — really pushed the point home how all sorts of sake can be enjoyed both ways.”
